The U Visa
The U Visa for Victims of Crime is a special visa for individuals (and their immediate relatives) who have been victims of qualified criminal activity; who have been helpful to law enforcement or government officials in the investigation or prosecution; or who have suffered substantially as a result of criminal activity.
You may be eligible for the U Visa if:
- You have been victim of a qualifying crime.
- You have suffered substantially either physically or mentally as a result of being a victim.
- You have information about criminal activity.
- You have been helpful in the investigation or prosecution of the crime.
- The crime occurred in the United States.
- You are admissible to the United States as an immigrant. If you are inadmissible for a criminal record or immigration violations, there is a discretionary but very broad waiver available that you could apply to cure almost any ground of inadmissibility.
